CIFS - "mount error(13): Permission denied" (UPDATE)

@Marinerdevil wrote:

Trying to mount samba share to ubuntu server that is running in lxc container on Proxmox 4. Rockstor lives in its own VM. Everybody can ping everybody on the LAN. I have cifs-utils installed. I have a mixture of linux and windows on the network. I have an entry in /etc/fstab as follows:

//192.168.2.204/plex-data /mnt/cifs cifs username=XXXX,password=YYYYY,domain=WORKGROUP,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

which is from ubuntu documentation and is reflected in a couple of tutorials I watched/read. I have also tried several variations of this. No mater what, I get, "mount error(13): Permission denied" in ubuntu server. Get same error with "sudo mount -t cifs..." at ~$. However, I can mount the share via "smbclient //server/share -U user%password"

my ubuntu laptop has no trouble, neither does my win desktop, just the sever. Hell I even have it shared to my Nexus.

any help with getting this share mounted would be greatly appreciate.

Default Chown files to a specific user

So if I'm reading this correctly the following will make any files to my media share (I was already in /mnt2 when I did this) automatically be owned by the user emby and rwx for that user?

setfacl -Rm g:emby:rwX,d:g:emby:rwX Media
setfacl -Rm u:emby:rwX,d:u:emby:rwX Media

getfacl Media/
# file: Media/
#owner: emby
#group: emby
user::rwx
user:emby:rwx
group::rwx
group:emby:rwx
mask::rwx
other::r-x
default:user::rwx
default:user:emby:rwx
default:group::rwx
default:group:emby:rwx
default:mask::rwx

Edit: Hmm doesn't appear to work :frowning:

Edit2:

chmod g+s -R Media

This works for Group inheritance but I still get the problem that if another user wrote to the share then it's owned by them and for some reason I cannot write to that directory as the user emby.

No Web Access - but IP Adress assigned

@Mark9324 wrote:

Hello,
I'm new to Rockstor and installed Rockstor on my System.
After installing it I get a message "The system does not yet have an IP Adress [...]".
When I log in as root and look at the ifconfig output I see for my enp2s0 Interface an adress assigned by my DHCP Server. I can ping this address and I can ping hosts in my network from the Terminal of my Rockstor Server. But anyway I can't access it by Web Browser.
I also tried to assign a static IP, but after restarting the server it gets an adress by DHCP and does't hold the static assigned.

Does anybody have an idea for my problems?

Thanks!

Support for the Raspberry Pi 2

@jdmessina wrote:

I'm interested in running Rockstor on a Raspberry Pi 2. I'm willing to try my hand at doing the port, if it doesn't exist, but I could use some assistance in getting started. I did look at the documentation for developers, but I did have some questions.

Once you get your git repository setup, it sounds like the next thing to do is get a build VM setup. This build VM is a current production Rockstor VM? If so, that doesn't exist for an arm architecture. If this is a standard vanilla linux environment on the correct target arch, would Raspbian or Ubuntu work as a build VM?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I am new to rockstor and I must say I really like the Web interface. However through testing I created 3 drives in esxi and put raid 5 over them.

I then deleted a drive and realized that it didn't detect the drive dropping off. I then tried to add a new drive to replace the old the drive after a reboot and it simply wouldn't allow it and got everything broken where I couldn't delete the RAID set or anything.

Problems creating bootable installation USB flash drive on a Mac

Using a late 2011 MacBookPro runing latest version of OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

256GB ECC RAM
30 x 4TB WD Re 7200 drives
3 x dual port Intel X540T2BLK Intel X540 DA2 10GBe NICs

The Q30 will be used as shared storage by an ultra Hi-Def 2K/4K/6K film production company for online editing and post-production

I've tried the Quick Start method "dd if=Rockstor-3.8-10.iso of=/dev/disk2" on USB sticks formatted as Apple HFS+ and exFAT. It takes good while, but data gets written and I end up with flash drives that look like this

But, when I insert it into our new Q30 NAS, I get nothing - no booting

I also tried converting the Rockstor .iso to .img via "hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o ~/path/to/Rockstor.img ~/path/to/Rockstor-3.8-10.iso", then doing the same "dd..."

I end up with the same looking contents of the flash drive as creating from the .iso

I suppose I should just find a Linux or Windows machine and use one of the apps to do it(this is a Mac-only company).
But, is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

Replication failing (no error)

I'm struggling to replicate a share (containing 7.4Gb). No errors, just nothing is transferred. Top two windows in below screenshot show the source NAS, bottom is the destination. Notice although the source says Data Transferred: "7679607 KB at 34221.02 KB/sec" , the destination says "0 KB at 0.00 KB/sec".

Also in SSH on the destination NAS, a directory listing of "/mnt2/c8513240-674b808e-b510-4896-8998-5036f72689c0_ISO_share" shows this is empty.

Any suggestions? Is there a log providing further detail somewhere?

I just got a new computer and wanted to install RockStor. Unfortunately, I am not getting any network access during the install. I've got an ASRock motherboard with a socket 1151 and an onboard Intel NIC. I'm guessing that the version of RockStor/RHEL does not support my NIC. I was able to install Ubuntu on the same machine and use the network, so drivers and everything seem to exist. Is there any way to troubleshoot or move forward from here?

Replication over WAN slow. Error: "No response received from the broker"

$

@grizzly wrote:

Hi,
Trying to replicate over WAN to a distant destination. Average ping response is around 400ms. Source looks fine, however every few seconds, I get the following errors in the destination rockstor.log:

[10/Jan/2016 12:35:01] ERROR [smart_manager.replication.receiver:315] Id: c8513240-674b808e-b510-4896-8998-5036f72689c0-6. No response received from the broker. remaining tries: 9

This appears irregularly, but every 2-3 mins on average. I notice receiver.py has:

if (socks.get(self.dealer) == zmq.POLLIN):
else:
...
msg = ('No response received from the broker. remaining tries: %d' % num_tries)

Is whatever POLLIN is set to too few milliseconds for this scenario? Replication seems to be progressing because I also regularly get:

[10/Jan/2016 12:44:21] DEBUG [smart_manager.replication.listener_broker:208] Active Receiver: c8513240-674b808e-b510-4896-8998-5036f72689c0-6. Messages processed: 27000

and the "Messages processed" steadily increments. But I should be achieving close to the 3mbps upload bandwidth from the source NAS, but actually currently only achieving around 0.68mbps ("Rate: 85 KB/sec"), so wondering if these errors are decelerating replication.

I've allowed ports 443 and 10002 (my designated Remote Listener Port) between the source and destination. Are any others needed?

Many thanks.

Fatal error: Too many clients error when connecting with https after a while

@Nick wrote:

TL;DR why is the number of connections to the webpage status info so limited?

Hi, just installed rockstor, purchased the 5 year support. Fun to play with this. I'm running inside virtualbox vm, with 4 gig ram, 2 cpus, 1 physical disk mapped. My system has 16 gig physical ram, 4 proc i7 with multithreading, vt-d. I'm running 3.8.10. I am logged in with my non-root account.

I connect to the http interface on my local network, and everything works, (https://10.1.2,3 or whatever). The problem is I connect a few times a day from different systems. After a while I noticed that I started getting error messages and the ui wouldn't load. I love the ability to get that error.tar file.

I don't think I'm opening even 30 different connections. This seems like a strange fragility that I can't open say 5 or 10 different connections.

In the error file, I see different: FATAL: sorry, too many clients already. I see this with any of the pages at my local network after the problem. Restarting the vm fixes it. Here's the top of one of the stack frames:

SSD Caching options - Do they exist?

$

@dhahlen wrote:

Moving from a FreenNAS 9.1.x server to Rockstor 3.8.x

My freenas server had 10 x 4tb SAS drives with a standard desktop SSD for L2ARC and a SLC-Based SSD for ZIL/SLOG.

The system is primarily used for media editing over a 10gb network and will be storing large files. We handle 4K Raw media and sometimes encode over the network, but not too often.

What I am looking for is a read/write cache leveraging the available SSD's. I am about to install Rockstor and wanted to see if it had those options before I went digging.

Appreciate the assist. Looking forward to seeing what Rockstor has to offer!

Pools / Shares mount incorrectly after disk swaps

$

@baldusjm wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Shares not mounted on reboot if disk order changes:

This is similar to my issue, with a problematic complication.

After removing a disk and putting a different one in, the disk order changed and the pools got .... confused?

Checking the btrfs volumes/subvolumes they are assigned to the correct sdX dev nodes. However, they are being mounted in the wrong places. The most problematic one, is showing a two disk pool sdd, sde. Unfortunately, sdd is actually the disk rockstor is installed on (SSD). sde is being mounted as a subvolume of the /root subvolume of the install disk. sde is also being mounted with the SSD option flag, though it's a HDD.

sdd shows the "trashcan" icon but I'm nervous about using it, since I don't know what command will actually be issued. sdd contains the OS, and in the disk GUI sdd shares the same serial number as sde. Best case would be it doesn't do anything at all. Worst case is it erases sde or sdd.

I've used the btrfs tools to check/confirm the volume/subvolume id's of the affected disks, and I can umount/remount them all manually, but I'm guessing it will be messed up again next reboot.

Is there a safe way of fixing this problem?

TIA,
Josh

Rebooting brought the drives back online, but still cannot logon to web. SSH is fine.

Fellow humans! If you install Rockstor on mission critical servers, you may want to create a two drive mirror for the OS. I've written up a descriptive howto with pictures on how to set that up and recover from a drive failure. Here it is in the howto section of documentation.

I think 45Drives already ship with this setup if you get a box from them. @bkelly, feel free to suggest any improvements to the doc!
