Hi,

Today I wanted to stop and restart Plex on the WebGUI in order to upgrade Plex. But the service is not stoppable anymore. So I rebooted the system and now Plex is upgraded. But this is not a solution. Is there another way to restart Plex (CLI)?

Root filesystem full on new install for unexplained reasons

$

@gburian wrote:

I am new to Rockstor and have installed it using a single drive for my root filesystem and a collection of 7 other drives as a data pool (RAID 1).

I intend to use this server as a backup server (via SFTP). Since this server will replace an existing SFTP server, I began transferring data using rsync from the other server. This transfer stalled part-way through the transfer, and after multiple attempts that also stalled, I decided to reboot the Rockstor server.

After reboot, I could not connect to the web UI but was able to log in via SSH. I discovered that my root filesystem is full:

[root@backup1 Backup]# btrfs fi df /
Data, single: total=144.54GiB, used=144.53GiB
System, DUP: total=8.00MiB, used=16.00KiB
Metadata, DUP: total=1.00GiB, used=321.53MiB
GlobalReserve, single: total=180.23MiB, used=0.00B
[root@backup1 Backup]# btrfs fi us /
Overall:
    Device size:		 146.56GiB
    Device allocated:		 146.56GiB
    Device unallocated:		   4.00MiB
    Device missing:		     0.00B
    Used:			 145.16GiB
    Free (estimated):		   7.67MiB	(min: 7.67MiB)
    Data ratio:			      1.00
    Metadata ratio:		      2.00
    Global reserve:		 180.23MiB	(used: 0.00B)

Data,single: Size:144.54GiB, Used:144.53GiB
   /dev/sda3	 144.54GiB

Metadata,DUP: Size:1.00GiB, Used:321.53MiB
   /dev/sda3	   2.00GiB

System,DUP: Size:8.00MiB, Used:16.00KiB
   /dev/sda3	  16.00MiB

Unallocated:
   /dev/sda3	   4.00MiB

This despite the fact that I was transferring files only to the data pool (not the root filesystem).

Using “du” I cannot find any files that account for anything close to the full space of the root filesystem, so I am assuming this means the root filesystem has somehow become corrupted.

Questions:

  1. Are there known issues with Rockstor/btrfs that can result in a full filesystem such as I described?
  2. Is there any way to diagnose more fully why BTRFS believes the filesystem is full when I cannot find any files that take up space anywhere close to the size of the filesystem?
  3. Is there a way to recover my root filesystem, or is it best to re-install Rockstor and hope this doesn’t re-occur?

ecoDMS undocumented

I am new to rocstor, I have setup the latest version on my old server, I bought 16Gb Ram and 3 off 2Tb HD with a 250GB SSD for the operating system. I have installed plex and got it working fine, this covers my music and pictures.
For Home documents, I like the look of ecoDMS and installed it through the rockons section, however, there are several variables which it tells you to set up , mainly working directories, storage and backup locations, the thing is I have searched for days and days for documentation to see what to set each location to. without this I am just guessing, I have blindly went with 20gb for config directory, likewise for backup, I set the min directory to my documents share . no errors as I can see, but when I run the gui from the rockon page I get the error failed to connect to port 8080, it is open and redirected to my new rocstor server so am unsure if this is because I have not setup the initial sizes correctly or I need to tweak a setting somewhere.
the ecoDMS website is mainly in German and the documentation which I have read from head to toe doesn’t cover installing on rocstor so is there any help on this site that walks through a beginner to help setup ecoDMS to get it to the GUI?

oh and a search feature on the forums would also help as I have had to look through pages and pages searching for ecoDMS without success. there probably is and I can’t find it and it points to the help I need. that’s life…
Cheers for your help in advance

Hi,

I have 3 disk pool on raid-1 and thinking of moving it on top of LUKS (like my diy backup nas on opensuse). I ordered fourth disk so does rockstor go how crazy if I just do cryptsetup on new disk, then btrfs replace 3rd disk to new 4th. After that is completed wipe the old 3rd disk, btrfs replace 2nd with it and so on and at the end just empty wipe 1st disk and add that as the 4th disk of the pool?

Safest way to unmount Pool/Shares?

$

@kupan787 wrote:

Hello.

I am wondering what is the safest way to unmount a Pool/Shares from Rockstor?

The reason I ask, I have an external chassis connected via SFF-8088. This chassis will have its own BTRFS pool setup. If I want to do any work on it, I’d like to be able to safely unmount the Pool (and associated drives?) so that I can power down the chassis and do work, without powering down the entire NAS.

I’m assuming I could go to where the Pool is mounted, and do a:

umount /mnt2/ExtChassis

But what I am unsure is if that will safely unmount all Shares that are on that pool, or do I need to unmount all of the shares first, and then the pool? Also, will Rockstor try to automatically remount when it sees the pool as unmounted? Or is there a command I can execute to remount the Pool once I bring the chassis back online?

What will happen if a drive is lost from Raid 1 Pool

@djb wrote:

Hello Everyone,

I was testing ROCKSTOR 3.9.1 and i was very happy with the result. Nice smooth installation and easy configuration for SMB shared folder. Web Gui is also cool! I have execute a mirror RAID1.

Since my intended usage is not for just home use, i simulate a hard disk failure by removing the sata cable. The result was disappointing since the whole storage pool was disappeared, no option to fix the pool, and all the data was not accessible. This is the philosophy of mirror RAID1, have your data available if 1 hard drive fails out of 2. Since this is not possible with Rockstor, i’m wondering what the developers or rockstor really doing and why is this ?

Is there any intention of providing paid professional services for those issues ?

Let’s say i dont want to give up on Rockstor, even my disappointing experience. What else should i do or try ?

Cheers.

BTRFS Balance abdnormally slow

@G_Man_be wrote:

Hello everybody!

I come to this community to seek some advice. I will try to make my story short and to the point :slight_smile:

I had media_pool with sdf (6To) and sdh (4To) in single disk.
The size of the pool was 8TB and the total used space in the pool is 7.08TB
Last week I bought another 8To disk that I added to my pool but I wanted to convert it to RAID1. So I started the conversion from the UI and this is the command that is running: “btrfs balance start -mconvert raid1 -dconvert raid1 -f /mnt2/media_pool”
Since the 24th (6 days ago), only 11% of the balance is done! When I check the new disk (sdj) only 834GB of data is present.
So my question is like all the other questions on the internet, is this normal? I know that a balance will be slow, but only 834GB of data wrote in 6 days is very very slow to me…
If I check iostat the speed is only 1.7MB write on the new disk:

I have to run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg to add 4.12.* kernel and then edit /etc/default/grub to change the value in GRUB_DEFAULT=## with the numeric entry value from running grep '^menuentry' /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

My Rockstor ran in a VM on Unraid. Unraid is an ingenious server software. But Apple and unraid don’t like each other either…

Since a week I run the Rockstor server separately on an I7 notebook with a USB harddisk attached. It works like a charm. The UnRaid server comes into an environment where there is a public IP address - out of my house. Then NextCloud is installed in a VM. Later on I say byebye to google and co… i hope so :wink:
